Glass plate negative. A group of men, warmly dressed, stand on the ice of a lake or river. A man in the back of the group holds an ice saw, partially obscured by the layer of ice being cut. A man toward the front holds a long pole for moving the blocks of ice in the water or possibly an ice chisel. On the right, a large area of ice has been removed and water is visible. A trail of smoke from a train can be seen in the distance behind the men.
