Description:
Photographic Print. Image is an interior detail of the Westville Grange No 540 located in Otsego County, New York. The image shows the entryway to the Main Hall. Just outside the Main Hall on the right is a board with several award ribbons displayed, as well as certificates of appreciation and merit. In view through the Main Hall doorway are several press back chairs with carved and spindle backs, a bench, and podium. The Westville Grange was founded in February 4, 1888 with twenty-four charter members. Dues were eight cents for males and four cents for females upon the founding of the Grange. After less than one year a building was planned. The lot for the Grange building was purchased from P.A. Jewell on 1/12/1889 for $50. (This information was adapted from "Otsego County Pomona Grange: The History of Otsego County Granges," published in 1972 by the Otsego County Pomona Grange). On the reverse of the photograph is handwritten: AWARD RIBBONS AND MAIN HALL/WESTVILLE GRANGE # 540/2002/ANDY BAUGNET.
